It's official. Last week, I filed my papers for re-election to the Santa Rosa City Council as the representative for District 3. Though it's been an honor and privilege to serve as your Vice Mayor and Councilmember, I don't take the decision to run for another term lightly.
My job at Saint Vincent de Paul, supporting those in our community who are experiencing homelessness, remains an important piece of my public service. I'm also thrilled that my wife, Ali, is now pregnant with our first child.
Yet, with all of the crises facing Santa Rosa, from housing and homelessness, to the recent challenges with wildfires and the pandemic, it's clear that our city needs steady, experienced leadership--and my work on the Council is not complete.
Despite how difficult things have been in 2020, I am proud of everything we've managed to accomplish over the past four years.
Protecting frontline workers and city employees with paid sick leave, so they can stay at home, get healthy, and help keep the virus contained;
Expanding affordable housing by cutting red tape and reducing permit fees;
Launching a legal defense fund to protect our undocumented friends and neighbors and keep families together;
Setting the course for 100% clean energy city-wide.
But the road ahead will not be easy. It will take a gigantic effort from all of us. COVID-19 and the recent wildfires have upended life as we know it, and a full recovery means ensuring residents and businesses have everything they need to get back on track. That’s why I’m running.
You were a critical part of my campaign for the City Council in 2016, and if you are able during these difficult times, I hope you will join me as a founding donor of the re-election campaign by clicking here.
Even during a pandemic, campaigns for public office need funds to conduct outreach. It's an important opportunity for elected officials to connect with voters over key issues, like housing, homelessness, and public health. We may not have a physical office, but we still need to keep the lights on.
Thank you for your support during my first term on the Council. I look forward to serving you again!
